She was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
We can practically do anything and everything with our phones today. And sometimes, losing them or forgetting about them at home can ruin our entire day. But like any other gadget, phones lose power at the end of the day, and they need a little bit of rest through charging. However, some people couldn’t wait for their phones to fully charge and use them while still charging.
Using phone while they are still charging has been proven to be extremely dangerous. Many incidents regarding “exploding” phones have made headlines around the world, but still, people continue to do it. A teen girl from India could no longer learn her lesson after she lost her life to such a dangerous habit.
The victim, identified as Uma Oram from Kheriakani village in Jharsuguda district in Odisha, fell unconscious after her phone exploded. She suffered injuries to her hand, leg, and chest from the explosion. Though she was immediately rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead on arrival.
“Its battery exploded suddenly. Before we could know what exactly happened, Uma fell unconscious. She was declared dead at the hospital,” Metro UK quoted the brother, Durga Prasad Oram, as saying.
Durga told authorities that his sister just finished eating lunch when she remembered that she had to talk to a relative. But because her Nokia phone was running low on battery, the teen decided to charge the phone while making the call.
The bereaved family is reportedly planning to seek compensation from the phone manufacturer, believing the phone was faulty, causing the deadly explosion. However, HMD Global, the company manufacturing the new Nokia models, denied the phone was one of theirs.
“While we have not been able to independently verify the facts of any of these reports, we can confirm that the mobile phone in question was not manufactured or sold by HMD Global, the new home of Nokia phones, set up in 2017 to create a new range of Nokia devices,” said HMD in a statement. “As HMD Global, we are committed to producing high-quality handsets which deliver a strong user experience and meet high customer expectations.”
The girl’s death is still under investigation.
